Lehre bei François-David Cabanis in Genf, Weiterbildungsaufenthalte in Montpellier, Paris und Strassburg. Chirurg in Orbe und Yverdon, 1770-75 im Dienst des Gf. Potocki. 1778 eröffnete V. in Yverdon die erste Hebammenschule der Schweiz. Danach wandte er sich dem jungen Gebiet der Orthopädie zu, gründete 1780 das weltweit erste orthopäd. Surgeon in Orbe and Yverdon, 1770-75 in the service of Gf. Potocki. In 1778 Venel opened the first midwifery school in Switzerland in Yverdon. He then turned to the young field of orthopaedics, founded the world’s first orthopaedic hospital in the Abbaye of Orbe in 1780 and earned the undisputed title of ‚father of orthopaedics‘. – Later half cloth binding. 42, (6) pages.
