Der Verfasser, Willem Hessels van Est (1542-1613) aus Gorcum, war Doktor der Theologie und Professor der Philosophie in Leuven, sp\u00e4ter in Douai. Er wurde f\u00fcr seine Gelehrtheit und seine Redegewandtheit sehr bewundert und von Papst Benedict XIV. als &#8220;doctor fundatissimus&#8221; apostrophiert. Sein Hauptwerk, die Kommentare zu den Apostelbriefen, erschien urspr\u00fcnglich 1614-15 und liegt hier in einer neuen Ausgabe besorgt durch Jacob Merlo Horstius (1597-1644) vor.
